I was lying in bed this morning, and thinking. My birthday is on Tuesday, and I’ll be 17. But nothing much happens when you become 17. I mean, 13 you become a real ‘teen’ and you can fly without having UM (unaccompanied minor) branded on your forehead, 14 (in Alaska) you can get a learner’s permit, 15 is another nada much birthday, 16 you can get a driver’s liscense, 17 nada, and 18 you get to vote and enter those contests, and of course, go to those websites 🙂
And as I was thinking about this, I also realized that my sister’s, my little sister’s next birthday is her fourteenth. She will be 14. She will be able to get a learner’s permit, and sit behind the wheel of a car.
Scary. this morning my alarm went off, but I didn’t get up, and drifted back into sleep, and dreamt that I got up and took a shower, and then I really woke up and was nearly late. So I took a shower twice today… you know, I was in a chat with some of my friends who are still in the states yesterday and I noticed how many Finnish words I use in everyday conversation now 🙂
I met another American girl last week who’s been here for 10 months but doesn’t speak Finnish — she said. But she was on the phone with a friend who was supposed to be buying food, and also talking with a friend who was right there. She calls the guy, first sentence out of her mouth is ‘moi, missä sä oot?’ (hi, where are you?) and later she turns to her friend and says ‘ha! hän on rahaton!’ (ha! he is moneyless!) but she did speak mostly in english 🙂 hey, know what?
I was thinking of celebrating Ramadan again this year, but I just now found that it started on the 9th, and besides I think it is a bit better that I do eat.
oh well! today Marcela and I are having communication troubles… she woke up in portugese mode, or my english is rather far gone, or something.
she asked if I had money, and if I wanted to share a coke with her, and I thought she wanted to go into the city and have lunch at a cafe, so I told her I had a class and it was one I shouldn’t skip.
